This is not your average help desk job,
and we are not your average employer.
Read on to find out why!
The Office of the State Treasurer is different from other State agencies in that our agency’s mission is derived from the Maryland State Constitution. Originally created in pre-revolutionary times, the Office served as the independent custodian of the Colony’s treasury. Today, the Treasurer is one of three elite Constitutional officers, along with the State Comptroller and the Governor, who directly control the State’s money.
Haven’t heard of us? That’s no surprise, because most of what we do is behind the scenes, but essential for State government to function. In general, our agency is responsible for receiving, depositing, investing, and distributing State money. The State Treasurer’s Office employes just under 100 employees, yet what we accomplish is no small feat. Due to our smaller size and high output, our work culture is collaborative and amiable, and carries an expectation that staff are willing to accept a full range of duties from low to high level…whatever it takes to get the job done.
The Treasury IT Division supports the agency’s mandated mission in two principal ways – technology and production. The agency operates in a Microsoft centered environment utilizing customized applications and platforms, enabling staff to accomplish specialized job functions. This position responds to and coordinates resolution of Help Desk tickets, providing frontline computer system support and triage to agency users for Treasury operations. The IT Division also bears the unique responsibility of check printing and production for all State vendor payments and specially arranged check printing jobs through inter-agency MOU. Due to the Constitutional and statutory obligation of this sole statewide function, this position requires onsite presence and is deemed mission critical / emergency essential, serving as the primary check printer.
The position calls for a strong interest in and desire to learn technology, as well as understanding of and proficiency in customer service concepts and application. The incumbent must have the ability to work collaboratively and productively in a team environment and maintain professionalism, but also be effective at independent research, troubleshooting and problem solving.
