The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), an employer of choice, is announcing an exciting opportunity to join our team as an IT System Administrator, Senior Specialist! We are seeking talented individuals to fill two (2) positions!


About the Division and Unit

The Information Technology (IT) Division is an internal service organization responsible for providing information technology products and services in support of the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) agency’s business priorities so that L&I can keep Washington Safe and Working.

Within the IT Division’s Maintenance and Operations (M&O) program, the Network Infrastructure & Operation (NetOps) unit is responsible for ensuring the L&I network, servers, storage and backups, both virtual and physical are always available and run at their highest efficiency.


About the Role

As the Domain System Administrator, this role works as part of a team of System Administrators, applying advanced technical knowledge to support all of L&I’s Active Directory infrastructure and all servers which require 24/7 operation. If chosen for this role, you will use your knowledge and skills to test and develop technology to meet the rapidly changing business needs including the continued growth and adoption of emerging technology in cloud environments. In addition, you will mentor and provide assistance to entry and journey level System Administrators in the NetOps unit and other professionals in the IT division.

Duties

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Enterprise Active Directory Domain Services, including:
    • Provide guidance and leadership to maintain proper operation, maintenance, support, and administration of agency-wide mission-critical and highly-complex AD Domain Services, including but not limited to DNS, DHCP, and GPO management
    • Provide technical direction of team assignments and operational projects
  • Systems Engineering, including:
    • Engineering applications and processes for new and existing environments
    • Provide enterprise architecture guidance, support and coordination to customers and IT project teams for projects
    • Analyze, design and implement enterprise wide IT solutions that align with the organizations structure, goals and systems
    • Use creative problem solving to find solutions to challenges throughout the lifecycle of an IT system
  • Identity and Access Management, including:
    • Monitor, administer, configure, implement and maintain Domain Services in the all domains
    • Perform operational tasks as a Domain Administrator
    • Perform Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) and Azure Enterprise Applications implementations
    • Verify servers and workstations are in the correct OU, correct anomalies
    • Verify Domain Controllers are Patched
    • Primary DC/AD escalation point for Service Desk
  • Systems Administration, including:
    • Provide expert-level technical administration for coordination, installation, and promotion of agency-wide mission critical systems
    • Performs analysis and monitoring to ensure all Identity and Access Management systems stay current with all patches released by the vendor to mitigate potential vulnerabilities

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ten (10) years of qualifying professional System Administration IT experience working full-time within a professional IT environment. Qualifying professional IT experience includes the following:
    • Installing and supporting servers, applications, in an enterprise network environment.
    • Identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complicated network and application issues.

NOTE: Education may substitute for IT experience up to four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree and up to two (2) years for an associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field


Desired:

  • Experience in creating, modifying, and troubleshooting scripts and workflows.
  • Experience with Azure cloud environment.
  • Vendor certifications in specific technologies including, but not limited to, Microsoft Certifications.
