SCOPE OF POSITION: The Desktop Support Technician works with the Assistant Director of IT to deploy new workstations, provide on-site support for clients, troubleshoot and resolve initial issues, and deliver top-quality service to end-users. Support includes installation and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Troubleshoot network connectivity and wireless access for local and remote computers or devices.
The Facilities Operations team is committed to providing the employees and residents at Rockingham County a safe, supported, and environmentally conscious environment. The Desktop Support Technician assists with maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing computer systems, hardware, and computer peripherals by solving a broad range of day-to-day onsite technical issues on network infrastructure and internal desktop systems. The Desktop Support Technician provides telephone, in-person, and remote support to end-users, resolves issues quickly and efficiently, assists with new PC setups/deployment to users, installs peripheral components such as printers/scanners/phones/disk drives, etc. assists in the customization/adaptation of existing programs, furnishes computer/network rights to folders and programs, and provides support for connectivity to the network(s). Further, the Desktop Support Technician documents/maintains/upgrades/replaces hardware and software systems, determines the most cost-effective repair to minimize customer downtime, performs asset inventory activities as needed, and establishes regular in-person and email communications with the Assistant Director of IT regarding updates and pertinent IT activities. Requires the ability to stay past normal shift time to provide coverage during emergency situations or as the need demands.
