Job Summary:

Working as a member of Tenaska’s Information Technology team, the Network Administrator Intern puts security, availability, and performance top of mind every day. The ideal candidate is excited about technology and willing to dive into new approaches to problems and bring their best to the workplace every day. They positively support the “daily state” of the network and ensure customer experience excellence. Network Administrator Interns are working to become familiar with network best practices and regularly seek deeper detail from the Administrators and Engineers with whom they work. Daily focus centers around gaining exposure to networking fundamentals through monitoring platforms, diagramming and staging of network equipment. They ensure any impacts to business communications and user experience are documented and resolved with guidance from senior members of the team. They support the front line of troubleshooters across the networking footprint.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support network deployments and changes
  • Manage and support remote network hardware and services, including on-premises and cloud connectivity, switching, routing, firewalls, SD-WAN, and wireless technologies
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn networking concepts
  • Provide excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills in a collaborative environment
  • Schedule and work with colleagues, remote site personnel, and partners for necessary network migrations, installs, upgrades, and changes
  • Articulate technical details in a coherent and easily understood fashion to customers
  • Complete tickets assigned in a reasonable manner and support others within the queue
  • Complete network cabling in an orderly and functional manner
  • Collaborate with other members of the broader infrastructure team

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Pursuing a degree in MIS / CS or related
  • Familiarity with subnetting, networking fundamentals, and IT concepts
  • Customer-facing and/or public speaking experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Meraki, Cisco, Juniper, FortiGate, Palo Alto or Azure a plus
  • Experience or exposure to Agile methodologies
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCST, Network+
