Summary of Position:

The Senior System administrator will collaborate with the IT Manager to maintain stability, security and efficiency of our systems, especially regarding confidential client data, tax processing software and financial databases. The IT Helpdesk and Sr. System Administrator will also be responsible for administration and internal support of Reynolds + Rowella’s PC’s, printers, servers and related IT equipment and assistance to staff with any IT related issues.


Essential Functions:

Server & Network Management:

  • Assist in the setup, maintenance and monitoring of internal servers, workstations and network devices
  • Help Manage backups, ensuring tax data and client information are regularly and securely backed up


User Support & Troubleshooting:

  • Provide technical support to tax professionals and staff, resolving system and software issues related to the firm’s operations.
  • Troubleshoot and fix hardware and software issues on desktops, laptops and servers, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of tax preparation software, accounting tools and any other applications essential for tax filing.


Data Security & Compliance:

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining security protocols, and access controls to protect sensitive client information in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Help monitor the firm’s systems for potential security breaches or unauthorized access attempts.
  • Ensure user access management (creating, modifying and disabling accounts) is done according to the firm’s internal policies.


Software & System Maintenance:

  • Support the Firm’s tax and accounting related technologies including CCH, QuickBooks, Sureprep, Safe Send, etc.
  • Keep the Firm’s systems updated with the latest patches, antivirus software and security updates.


Staff Support, Trainings & Documentation:

  • Support staff with IT issues by responding to Helpdesk requests and inquiries.
  • Documenting completion of requests
  • Participate/Facilitate IT onboarding with new hires
  • Communicate with staff in regard to the progress of requests made through helpdesk, impending changes or updates to Firm software, outages, etc.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with other IT related administrative projects upon request by IT Management or Leadership
  • Availability for after-hour system updates
  • Requirement to work some evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Ability to lift and transport moderately heavy objects/equipment
  • Frequent same day travel to New Canaan office using personal vehicle


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 8+ years of experience in IT support
  • Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows Server, Linux, Power BI, Cisco Merak, Unifi, AD (Active Directory), Entra, etc.
  • Basic networking knowledge
  • Experience with cloud technologies
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, data protection and compliance requirements for handling financial information
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to details, and thinks creatively/out-the-box
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff and ask questions to help identify issues
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Knowledge of security best practices; multi-factor authentication and encryption methods
  • CompTIA Security+ is a plus, not required
  • Familiarity with tax and accounting software like CCH and Sure prep is a plus, not required
