Overview
Work in a large enterprise class environment to support the Redlands Campus and organizations worldwide as part of a team of network administrators and engineers. In this role, you’ll continuously build new skills as you work with multiple leading-edge technologies, while providing timely and effective support for LAN/WAN and wireless networks, security infrastructure, and ongoing projects.
Responsibilities
- Understanding of the physical cable plant layout at the Redlands Campus
- 5 days per week, onsite support presence at the Redlands Campus
- Physical cable patching of end user stations into the network
- Participate in network projects and network infrastructure design
- Configure and administer network switches, routers, access control devices, wireless access points and controllers, load balancers, and monitoring platforms per the Esri standard configuration templates
- Perform basic network services monitoring and troubleshooting for both WAN and LAN environments
- Work with end users and remote sites to evaluate new service requests and troubleshoot issues to resolution
- Collaborate closely with others in IT to support projects and resolve issues
- Provide off-hours support on a rotational basis
- Occasional travel to visit remote offices or data centers or to provide event support
- Manage/configure network devices via ssh and with tools such as Cisco Prime and SolarWinds Orion
- Work directly as a primary POC on campus building network upgrade/rebuild projects
- Effectively communicate with colleagues and leaders within the business (both inside IST and out)
- Physical installation of switches and other networking devices into communication closet and data center racks
- Coordination with facilities and third-party contractors for physical structured network cabling and mounting of wireless access points
- Coordination of shipping and receiving of networking equipment with the Redlands warehouse team
- Working as a POC for Facilities with large colleague move activities at the Redlands Campus
Requirements
- 1+ year of full-time work experience
- Basic understanding of foundational network principles, OSI model, and routing/switching concepts
- Ability to administer and troubleshoot Cisco Layer 2 and Layer 3 devices
- Understanding of cabling principles and ability to patch stations to the switching infrastructure
- Experience with managing and supporting wireless networks
- Basic Knowledge of WAN circuits and related technologies (BGP, EIGRP)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds
- Ability to reach, carry, and lift items weighing up to 40 pounds
- Ability to work effectively in a data center setting to install and maintain equipment
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related STEM field
Recommended Qualifications
- Cisco certification(s)
- Palo Alto certification(s)
- Hands-on experience with Cisco Nexus and NX-OS
- Experience with Cisco specific wireless products
- Familiarity with at least one scripting language and automation techniques
- Exposure to VMware NSX or equivalent SDN products
- Exposure to Amazon EC2 networking principles
- Working understanding of Layer 7 protocols
- Experience with Cisco ISE
- Experience with F5 BIG-IP platform
- Experience with Palo Alto NGFW’s and Panorama
