Description

THIS IS AN ONSITE NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR POSITION.  

This position works in conjunction with the IT team to ensure the stable operation of the computer networks.  This includes installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing hardware, software and communication links monitoring network utilization and security systems. Provides technical support to end users, answers questions, and prepares network training sessions as needed. Maintains activity logs and makes recommendations for new network products. Notifies supervisor of significant problems and recurring errors in operating systems/infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

1. Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of network administration duties.

a. Grants network rights to users.

b. Maintains user network infrastructure including troubleshooting devices such as routers, switches and firewalls.

c. Maintains file servers. Backs-up software, monitors account space and system usage, and upgrades software as necessary.

d. Configures software for network installation and company wide implementation.

e. Evaluates, tests, and recommends new software and network system updates updating cyber security and internal security measures.

f. Ensures that effective security systems are in place to protect network data. Backs up PC and file servers daily. Stores back-up data in a secure off-site location.

g. Ensures that appropriate safeguards are in place to detect computer viruses. Scans network software as needed to detect viruses.

h. Ensures Credit Union compliance with software licensing agreements.

I. Maintains documentation procedures, checklists, diagrams, and knowledgebase to mitigate recurring problems up to date.  

2. Assumes responsibility for performing timely and effective user support services

a. Assists users in accessing network resources. Provides phone, e-mail, and in-person support to end users.

b. Installs and maintains network and user software.

c. Troubleshoots problems with hardware and software. Maintains an activity log of problems, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for action.

d. Provides training for end users on installed and network software.

e. Takes work orders and coordinates with programmers (if necessary) to assist users with more complex problems.

3. Assumes responsibility for the effective and efficient maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment.

a. Repairs or replaces dysfunctional computer parts.

b. Contacts vendors and arranges for upgrades, updates, patches and replacements on software and hardware products.

c. Analyzes problems and provides technical assistance to solve them. Corrects routine operating problems by entering alternative or corrected operating commands.

d. Performs preventative maintenance on computer equipment. Cleans tape and CD drives and changes printer cartridges.

e. Maintains current logs of all PC’s, printers and versions of software installed.

4. Assumes responsibility for maintaining effective business relations with end users and outside vendors.

a. Identifies opportunities to improve user satisfaction.

b. Provides information, answers questions, and tracks and resolves problems promptly.

c. Maintains supportive relationships with users to ensure that their needs are met. d. Preserves professional relationships with outside vendors when requesting upgrades, replacement parts and assistance.

e. Projects and maintains the Credit Union’s reputation.

5. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Company personnel and with management.

a. Maintains regular contact with all departments to obtain information and to correct errors in network operations. Distributes materials on updated projects.

b. Assists area personnel with computer operations. Trains and supports users. Keeps users informed of the status of their requests.

c. Informs management of area activities. Notifies supervisor of system malfunctions and operating problems that cannot be corrected by routine procedures.

d. Attends meetings as required.

e. Completes records, reports, and logs timely.

6. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

a. Ensures that work area is clean, secure and well maintained.

b. Completes special projects as assigned.

c. Preserves confidentiality of Credit Union records

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience is required. Certified in one or more of the following is preferred: Microsoft Azure, MCSA, CCNA, or related certifications. 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Network operations and all related computer hardware and software.
  • Understanding of Credit Union operations and output requirements.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of similar or related experience working in Microsoft Windows server environments administering AD, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Exchange and Microsoft 365 admin center.

  • Experience working in virtualized environments (VMware/Hyper-V). Experience with cisco switches, firewalls and routers. 

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of technical experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices such as firewalls, routers, switches, and storage solutions.
