Systems Administrator Positions

This role will provide hands-on system administration and maintenance of Windows-based environments supporting mission-critical applications and data platforms. The ideal candidate has experience with physical and virtual server management, system hardening, enterprise backups, and secure configuration of Windows infrastructure within federal or healthcare environments.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, patch, and maintain Windows Server systems (2016, 2019, and newer) across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Administer and support enterprise services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SMB, RDP, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
  • Perform routine server maintenance, monitoring, and optimization to ensure system uptime, performance, and security compliance.
  • Configure and maintain server clusters, SAN-attached volumes, and multipath I/O (MPIO) settings for high-availability applications.
  • Support hardware platforms such as HP ProLiant DL Series Servers and blades, including firmware updates and diagnostics.
  • Work with monitoring tools such as SCOM, SolarWinds, or equivalent to proactively manage system health and performance.
  • Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of NIC teaming, Mellanox NICs, and switch integrations.
  • Implement VA/DoD Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs) for system hardening and vulnerability remediation.
  • Maintain and secure remote access tools including sFTP and RDP, ensuring compliance with encryption and access controls.
  • Configure and manage backup services using Commvault, including scheduling, validation, and restoration procedures.
  • Support the deployment of enterprise software tools including Visual Studio, Power BI, ER/Studio, Jupyter Lab, SQL Server, and others.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across virtual (Hyper-V) and physical systems, ensuring minimal downtime and fast recovery.
  • Collaborate with application developers, database engineers, and cybersecurity personnel to ensure operational alignment and compliance.
  • Maintain technical documentation, configuration guides, and system topology diagrams for operational and audit readiness.

Skills and Experience:

  • This position requires U.S. citizenship, U.S. residency, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field OR 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • 5+ years of experience administering Windows Server environments in large-scale or enterprise settings.
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, GPOs, Windows clustering, sFTP configuration, and SAN-attached storage.
  • Proficiency in patch management, system hardening, and compliance with federal security standards.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as Microsoft Hyper-V and tools such as Virtual Machine Manager (VMM).
  • Familiarity with enterprise backup and monitoring tools such as Commvault, SolarWinds, or SCOM.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting VA environments or other federal healthcare systems.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based integration with Azure-hosted services.
  • Familiarity with Nessus scans and remediation tracking for ATO readiness.
  • Exposure to container-based platforms or hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Microsoft, CompTIA, or ITIL certifications (e.g., MCSA, Security+, ITIL v4).
