ROLE SUMMARY


YourCode is currently seeking, on behalf of its client, an experienced IBM Power System Administrator to be responsible for the daily administration, monitoring, and maintenance of IBM i (AS/400) systems. The position oversees system performance, backups, replication, capacity, and security while leading troubleshooting efforts and managing support tickets. It requires deep expertise in IBM Power Systems and the ability to resolve complex issues efficiently and professionally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Overseing daily IBM i (AS/400) system operations, including job queues, subsystems, backups, storage, and performance monitoring; 

  • Administering user profiles, access controls, security settings, and object-level authority; 

  • Applying OS upgrades, patches, and PTFs; maintain system stability and compliance; 

  • Monitoring CPU, memory, and storage resources to ensure optimal system performance; 

  • Diagnosing and resolve system, network, and application issues specific to IBM Power Systems; 

  • Using system tools (e.g., WRKACTJOB, WRKSYSSTS, Navigator for i) to identify performance bottlenecks; 

  • Conducting root-cause analysis and recommend performance and process improvements; 

  • Managing system saves, restores, and disaster-recovery testing; 

  • Supporting high-availability and replication technologies (e.g., SAN-based replication, Robot HA); 

  • Enforcing system security policies, auditing, and encryption; 

  • Remediating vulnerabilities based on regulatory frameworks (e.g., NIST, FFIEC, SOC, PCI); 

  • Mentoring junior team members and sharing IBM i expertise; 

  • Working with development, network, and systems teams on integrations and deployments; 

  • Coordinating with security and disaster-recovery teams to support controls and continuity efforts; 

  • Engage with vendors for patches, upgrades, and technical support; 

  • Creating and updating technical documentation and procedures;

  • Adjusting to changing priorities, participate in on-call rotations, and perform additional duties as needed; 


KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field/relevant experience;

  • minimum of 8 years of relevant experience;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; 

  • Ability to work independently and in a team;

  • Experience with IBM HMC administration, LPAR configuration, system backups, virtual tape management, device administration, and user profile management; 

  • High proficiency with object-level security and authority management; 

  • Ability to work under pressure, including after hours or weekends when required; 

  • Willingness to research and adopt new technologies; 

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; 

  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach; 

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and processes; 

  • Attention to detail and strong time-management capabilities; 

  • DB2 administration experience (desirable); 

  • Experience with IBM i OS upgrades, migrations, and system builds (desirable);

  • Familiarity with the banking or financial-services sector (desirable);
